Highland High School
River Valley High School
Highland won the second half of a twin bill with the River Valley Vikings by winning 2 to 1 in a classic pitcher’s duel.
Highland pitcher Justin Tuggle picked up his first win of the year (1-1) by limiting the Vikings to 1 run and 2 hits through 5 innings of work. He struck out 4 in the outing. Freshman Sam LoPiccolo pitched a scoreless 6th inning and Jett Swetland closed out the game with his first save of the year.
Viking senior Zach Lehner went the distance for River Valley, limiting the Scots to 4 hits. Highland made the most of two Jett Swetland doubles to earn their fourth victory of the year. Senior Dalton Stambaugh drove in the winning run with a line drive to left field in the 6th inning.
The Scots defense shined again, allowing no errors through 7 innings, and only 2 in their last 20 innings.
Highland (4-3, 1-1) travels to Centerburg on Monday for an MOAC contest.
