Highland moved to 2-1 in the MOAC with a win over conference foe Centerburg at Highland Field Monday night.
Highland’s offense had 10 hits in the win and were led by Jett Swetland, Byron Belcher, Chase Beam, and Andrew Stillwell who all collected two hits apiece in the contest.
The Scots started the scoring the first when Byron Belcher drove in Jett Swetland, who led the game off with a single. The Scots scored 6 runs in the 3rd inning to open up the game; Swetland, Stillwell, Stambaugh, Belcher and Beam had consecutive hits in the inning to ignite the offense. Stillwell, Belcher, Wyatt Gresh, Jeremy Gahm, and Justin Tuggle had RBIs in the inning.
The Trojans cut the lead to 4 in the 5th inning by scoring 3 runs. In the bottom half of the inning, the Scots answered with 2 more runs after Conner Ulrey drove in Beam and Gresh to stretch the lead to 9 to 3.
Jett Swetland (2-0) picked up the win for the Scots, allowing 5 hits in 5 innings. He struck out 8 Centerburg hitters. Conner Ulrey pitched in relief. The only runner he allowed was thrown out by Freshman catcher Lane Ballard in the 7th.
The Scots move to 5-3 overall, 2-1 in the MOAC. They play at East Knox on Wednesday, at home versus Cardington on Thursday; and at Fredericktown on Friday before ending the week with double-header with Clear Fork on Saturday.
