The Highland boys had a game plan and actually worked it like they drew it up. Score early and put up crooked numbers on the score board in each half, communicate and play disciplined soccer. Senior Jaguar “Rollin Coal” Wilson opened the scoring in the first half on a brilliant left footed shot from the far left side of the field into the upper right corner just over the reach of Lakewood keeper and Ohio Northern recruit Tanner Masters. About 5 minutes later Jag had a similar shot from even more of an obtuse angel(holy geometry Batman) which hit the crossbar and was hammered into the net by a perfectly positioned freshman “Marshall” Dylan Thomas to round out the first half scoring.
The coach at halftime may have mentioned a similar midpoint score two years ago at Lakewood(that ended in a 3-2 defeat) and urged the Scots to score quickly in the second half. The home boys responded under a minute into the second stanza on a great run and finish by “Molten” Colton Gustafson who calmly beat the aggressive aforementioned Polar Bear recruit with a well placed low corner finish. The Scot scoring was closed out by the Co-captains(without Tennille………..okay that was a big stretch) when “Steve Stone Cold” Austin Smith had a textbook cross to Zach “Away in a” Granger who adroitly headed it into the nylon netting for a 4-0 lead. Jack “Hush Puppies” Chaffee and Xaiver “marks the spot” Privette each played a solid game on the “Dee” side. The lead allowed some of the young fellas to get some extended playing time and sophomore Collin “Cross” Bowman made some nice plays on defense.
The Scots get to turn right around and head over to Delaware County to take on Buckeye Valley Monday at 6pm.
Today’s shoutout goes to the Cleveland Browns, thank you for being relevant again(it has been a while) at least during the offseason, hope you can win a few games that count. Enjoy your Sunday everybody!
