The Highland boys took their final regular season road trip over the rolling hills and valleys to Loudonville last evening to take on the host Redbirds. The Scots controlled the ball for much of the first half and managed to “finish” twice in the period. The first goal was midway through the half and set up by an instructional videoesque give and go between freshmen Caleb “Bounty” Hunter and Mason “Brick” Keller who perfectly fed a wide open Austin Smith”brothers cough drops” who calmly deposited it into the corner of the goal. Five minutes later it was Austin “Mr. Smith goes to Washington’s” turn for the assist as he fed Zach “Texas Lone” Granger who would have made Chuck Norris proud by rifling a shot low into the corner to give the visiting Scots a 2-0 lead at the break.
During halftime the Scots may have listened to “Frankie Goes to Hollywood” with their 80’s hit “Relax” as less than two minutes into the second half Loudonville scored on a ball centered by Highland. Following about three minutes later with a Ringo Starr hit “It Don’t Come Easy”, Loudonville tied the contest taking full advantage of a Scot mistake. With the game leveled the boys body language told the story but the visitors refocused and went to an old classic McFadden and Whitehead tune, “Ain’t No Stopping Us Now” and the same combo that scored the Scots second goal cashed in the game winner with an additional assist from Cameron “Stirrer Stick” Striblin on a sweet low line drive laser off the right leather boot of Zach “National Park” Granger.
The defense withstood the late pressure from the Redbirds with “voluntold” sweeper Xaiver “X-Man” Privette having an outstanding game in a position he had not played since orange slices at halftime were in vogue. Colton “Crossfire” Gustafson because of his relentless hustle was the winner of the dirtiest jersey competition and Cale” Almost never” Everroad “the wrong bus” played a great game in goal for the Scots.
The Scots wrap up the regular season schedule on Saturday at noon for “senior day” as they entertain Columbus KIPP Academy.
Todays shoutout goes to the Big Green’s “Diaper Dandy” who scored his first career collegiate goal to beat the “Princestones” 1-0.
Have a great rest of your week everybody and enjoy the fall foliage!
