Clear Fork High School vs Highland High School

Highland entertained Clear Fork on Saturday afternoon, the word entertained was chosen because the combined scores of the first 4 meetings between the programs had a combined score of Colts 22, Scots 2, all easy Clear Fork wins. Clear Fork is a well coached seasoned boys program that has been solid for a long time. Highland is looking to make some strides in that direction. Yesterday was a fun game to be a part of and was competitive right untill the clock hit zero after 80 minutes of play on the sunsplashed turf at Fishburn Family Field. Both teams had a few early chance and the Colts scored first about 15 minutes in. The Scots answered about 7 minutes later on an unassisted goal by captian Austin “Banger” Smith. After the intermission the visitors took the lead about 7 minutes into the stanza but the hardworking Scots leveled the score on a goal by Freshman Ashton “related to Austin” Smith off a nice cross from Sophomore Caleb “bounty” Hunter. Clear Fork put in two goals within 2 minutes of each other just past the midway point of the half, the second one was a sweet shortside shot that nicked the inside of the post and found the net, sometimes you have to tip your hat to your opponent, heck of a shot there by Wyatt Strong.
In seasons past the Scots would have let the slumping shoulders and long drooping faces continue past the midfield restart, but not this time. The home side kept the pressure up and closed to 4-3 on a score by captain Colton “Shoes” Gustafson on a great ball by “Coupe de Dyl”an Thomas. Highland had a few chances to get the tilt level but were turned away by a scrambling Colt ‘”D”. An “air fistbump” to to Cale Everroad in the net with some gutty saves and Jumpin’ Jack Flash Chaffee on the bissel sweeper all game long, also Adi “R8” Karya played an outstanding game from the “buck stops here” position.
This was a great high school athletic contest and was proud and priviledged to be apart of it. Thanks for the work and the show fellas!
The Scots travel to Marion Harding on Wednesday afternoon for a 5pm kick with the Presidents.
Todays shoutout goes to the Highland bench bunch, the boys that didn’t get to play but were engaged and pumping up their teamates up all game long. Thank you and keep the positive vibes!
