Franklin Heights made the trip up from C-bus to take on the Scots last night and ran into a Highland side that was ready to show they had improved since last years’ 7-2 drubbing. Both teams had some opportunities early with some good runs and the Falcons broke through with a goal 26 minutes into the contest. The resilient home side broke out a little old skool “Heart” with their hit “Even it Up” and scored with ten seconds left before halftime on a nice run by frosh Mason “Brick House” Keller who dished to “Young Colton Run Free” Gustafson(with apologies to Rod Stewart) who placed a perfect ball into the corner to level the score.
The Scots came out with some positive aggression in the second half and had the better of the play for the first 20 some minutes of the second period. Unfortunately they couldn’t convert that into a lead and the visitors broke the tie on a counter run with 16 minutes remaining. The home boys kept at it but were turned away by some nice saves and missed opportunities. Franklin Heights sealed the game with a very late goal to make the final score somewhat deceiving as to how well the Scots played. Here’s some quick coach speak, “The Highland boys played their best overall game so far this season and maybe one of their best in the 4 year programs’ history”. Kudos to Co-Captains Zach “Lone” Granger and Austin “Powers” Smith for setting the pace and making sure the entire team(insert entire roster) came out and stayed FIRED UP!
The Scots take on Lakewood Saturday at noon at Fishburn Family Field, if you are in the neighborhood stop by and check it out, should be a nice September day.
Today’s shoutout goes down to Char-latte’ NC and the kid with a new raise and bonus. Nice work!
