The Highland Scots JV baseball team opened conference play with an 11-7 against host East Knox on Monday evening. Layton Shaffer received the win on the mound for the Scots after going 4 1/3 innings with three strikeouts and two runs allowed on one hit and one HBP. Additional Scots’ pitchers were Noah Ollhoff (1.1 IP, 1 H, 3 R, 2 BB, 1 K, 2 HB) and Zach Schmidt (1.1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 1 K). Schmidt led the Scots’ offense going 3-4 with a BB and two runs scored. Shaffer also scored two runs after going 2-3 with a BB, HBP, and RBI. C Adi Karya scored three runs after going 0-2 and reaching base three times with one BB and two HBP. Adding one run each were 3B Zach Liddle (0-4, BB, RBI), LF Zane Groves (1-3, BB), CF Jace Brooks (0-2, BB), and RF Gavin Zamer (1-1, two BB). Brayden Wiggand (0-0) had a pinch-hit sac-fly in the 5th inning to score Zamer while 2B Caleb Wetzel (0-3) had an RBI on a sac-bunt in the 6th inning to score Liddle. The Scots (4-0, 1-0) will host the Bulldogs in a rematch this Wednesday at 5:15 p.m.
